DTC 223

UnclassifiedFuel

What This Code Means

MIL ON during active fault; Engine Shutdown; TPS 2 Signal Voltage High; TPS2 voltage > 4.80 VDC with the throttle closed; TPS2 voltage > 4.80 VDC with the throttle open; DST voltage exceeds 4.80 VDC; TPS2 voltage is greater than 4.80 VDC with throttle closed; TPS2 voltage is greater than 4.80 VDC with throttle open; TPS2 voltage does not fall below 0.20 VDC when throttle is disconnected

Possible Causes

  • TPS1 voltage is greater than 4.8V or less than 0.2V AND TPS2 voltage is greater than 4.8V or less than 0.2V
  • Simultaneous voltage out-of-range faults for both TPS 1 and TPS2
  • Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) failure
  • Intermittent problem

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Replace the electronic throttle assembly
  2. 2Troubleshoot according to TPS1 voltage out-of-range following DTC 122 and 123 procedures
  3. 3Troubleshoot according to TPS2 voltage out-of-range following DTC 222 and 223 procedures
  4. 4Perform the On-Board (OBD) System Check
  5. 5With Key ON and Engine OFF, check if TPS2 voltage is low (< 1.00 VDC) at 0% TPS
  6. 6Slowly depress FP (or sweep throttle on stationary applications via the DBW page by typing the desired throttle opening % in the TPS Command box) and observe if TPS2 voltage is > 4.80 VDC with the throttle open
  7. 7Key OFF, disconnect throttle from harness, Key ON, Engine OFF, and check if DST displays TPS2 voltage < 0.20 VDC
  8. 8Slowly release FPP sensor while observing if TPS2 voltage falls below 0.2 volts
  9. 9Slowly release FPP sensor while observing if DST voltage exceeds 4.80 VDC
  10. 10Perform On-Board (OBD) System Check
  11. 11Key ON, Engine OFF with System Mode set to 'Stopped' and enable 'DBW Test' mode to verify TPS2 voltage
  12. 12Slowly depress Foot Pedal (FP) while observing TPS2 voltage
  13. 13Sweep throttle on stationary applications by navigating to the DBW page and entering the desired throttle opening percentage in the TPS Command box
  14. 14Key OFF, disconnect throttle from harness, switch Key ON with Engine OFF (System Mode 'Stopped') and check if TPS2 voltage is less than 0.20 VDC
