What This Code Means

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ON during active fault; Engine retarding the ignition timing; Severe engine knocking; Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ON; Engine shutdown

Possible Causes

  • Knock spark retard is above 50% of the maximum retard due to engine detonation or knock
  • Poor quality fuel
  • Elevated intake air temperature
  • Elevated coolant temperature
  • Loads exceeding engine load limit
  • Excessive exhaust backpressure
  • Running on 'hot' wellhead gas (gas containing a higher than usual concentration of ethane and larger hydrocarbons)

Suggested Actions

  1. 1See Diagnostic Information for DTC 1325
  2. 2If other DTCs exist, diagnose these first
  3. 3Refer to the engine manufacturer's service manual for additional information
  4. 4Take a gas analysis sample to check the makeup of the wellhead gas if running on wellhead gas
  5. 5Reduce the engine load when running on 'hot' gas to keep cylinder pressures down below the threshold where knock can occur
  6. 6Contact your OEM for more information on running an engine on wellhead gas
