DTC 221

What This Code Means

TPS1 and TPS2 difference is more than the fault condition defined in the calibration

Possible Causes

  • Intermittent problem
  • TPS shorted to voltage in the harness
  • Faulty ECM
  • Faulty connection at throttle
  • Faulty throttle

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Perform the On-Board (OBD) System Check.
  2. 2With Key ON, Engine OFF, System Mode set to 'Stopped', enable 'DBW Test' mode and slowly depress FPP sensor (or enter desired throttle opening % in the TPS Command box on the DBW page for stationary applications) to check TPS1 and TPS2 difference.
  3. 3With Key Off, disconnect throttle from harness, set Key On, Engine Off, System Mode to 'Stopped', enable 'DBW Test' mode, and check if the voltage for both TPS1 and TPS2 is less than 0.100 VDC.
  4. 4Connect TPS1 signal to the 5V reference at throttle connector while observing TPS1 voltage, repeat for TPS2, and check if DST displays both TPS1 and TPS2 voltage over 4.90 VDC.
