What This Code Means

MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) On; Engine shutdown; Engine coolant temperature reading or estimate greater than 230 degrees F for greater than 10 seconds; Engine running too hot

Possible Causes

  • Cooling system not full
  • Improper coolant type
  • Improper 50/50 mix of coolant and water
  • Fan belts not intact or loose
  • Debris on the radiator core impeding airflow
  • Hot air recirculating around the radiator
  • Hot exhaust being drawn into the airflow through the radiator

  1. 1Thoroughly inspect the cooling system to find the root cause of overheating

  3. 3Ensure coolant is the proper type and proper 50/50 mix of coolant and water
