What This Code Means
Generator set shutdown; Generator set runs out of fuel first (when sharing a common fuel tank with vehicle engine); Engine coolant temperature exceeded 115 °C (239 °F) for 10 seconds during normal operation; Low oil pressure cutoff switch did not open; Service check required; Engine cranking exceeded 30 seconds without starting
Possible Causes
- •Low engine oil level
- •Dirty or loose battery connections
- •Overloading the generator set
- •Low fuel level
- •Fuel dip tubes are arranged so that the generator set will run out of fuel first
- •Low coolant level
- •Coolant leaks
- •Blocked air inlet or outlet opening on the bottom of the generator set
- •Dirt fouling the radiation fins
- •Excessive connected load (e.g., air conditioners and battery chargers)
- •Engine oil is low
- •Engine oil is above the full mark on the dipstick
- •Active second-level fault code
- •Engine fails to start
Suggested Actions
- 1Maintain engine oil level
- 2Keep battery connections clean and tight
- 3Do not overload the generator set
- 4Watch the fuel gauge
- 5Mark the generator set empty point on the fuel gauge to make it easier to tell when to stop the generator set before running it out of fuel
- 6Check engine coolant level, add coolant as necessary, and repair any leaks
- 7Remove objects blocking air inlet or outlet openings on the bottom of the generator set
- 8Clean dirt out of radiation fins (compressed air or washing with water can be used; do not use a pressure washer or allow copious amounts of water to enter components)
- 9Reduce the number of connected appliances
- 10Add oil if the dipstick indicates oil is low
- 11Drain excess oil if oil is above the full mark on the dipstick
- 12See second-level fault code
