What This Code Means

Low oil pressure (below 8 PSI); Engine shut down

Possible Causes

  • Faulty oiling system
  • Faulty wiring between ECM and oil pressure sensor
  • Faulty oil pressure sender
  • Faulty wiring between terminal 3 and Terminal 25
  • Faulty DEPR / ECM

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Perform the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check
  2. 2Verify engine oil pressure using a mechanical oil pressure gauge
  3. 3Repair faulty oiling system
  4. 4Clear DTC 524 and warm the engine by idling until the ECT temperature is above 160 degrees F and has been running for at least 20 seconds or more
  5. 5Check terminal 3 on the sensor for a 5 volt reference from the ECM using a voltmeter
  6. 6Check terminal 19 on the ECM for a 5 volt reference using a voltmeter
  7. 7Repair faulty wiring between ECM and oil pressure sensor
  8. 8Check for a voltage signal coming out of terminal 3 with the oil pressure sender connected
  9. 9Replace faulty oil pressure sender
  10. 10Check for a signal voltage at pin 44 of the ECM with the oil pressure sender connected
  11. 11Repair faulty wiring between terminal 3 and Terminal 25
  12. 12Replace DEPR / ECM
