What This Code Means

VAC was NOT measured at Wire N1A; 240 VAC was NOT measured between the N2 lug and terminal 1 of the TR1; F3 fuse blows; SMM Load Shed Module not operating when line voltage is present; Signal on wire 23; Signal on wire 79; Signal on wire 8; Signal on wire 15; Signal on wire 21; Little or no battery voltage present at Terminal Connection 87 (Wire 15) on RL1 socket; Little or no battery voltage present at Terminal Connection 86 (Wire 15A) on RL1 socket; Signal on wire 20; Signal on wire 16; Initial power loss; Engine begins to crank; Unit senses 2-wire start; Starter is activated; Low coolant temperature; Low oil pressure; Low fuel pressure; High coolant temperature; Engine misfiring; Rough idle; No engine activity; Engine will not start; Low coolant level; Ignition system control malfunction; Engine control module receives no crank or cam sensor input; Engine operates at 3600 RPM; Engine operates at 1800 RPM; Signal on wire 17; Signal on wire 18; Signal on wire 12; Signal on wire 13; Si

Possible Causes

  • Faulty or damaged Wire N1A
  • Faulty transfer relay
  • T1 wiring shorted to ground
  • Faulty controller
  • Improper contactor operation
  • Wire 23
  • Wire 79
  • Wire 8
  • Wire 15
  • Wire 21
  • Wire 15 is pinched or cut
  • Wire 15 is prevented from having proper battery voltage
  • Wire 15A is pinched or cut
  • Wire 20
  • Wire 15A is prevented from having proper battery voltage
  • Wire 16
  • Line-to-line voltage drops below 60 percent of operating voltage
  • Voltage not sensed for 15 seconds (for RTS transfer switches)
  • Voltage not sensed at the transfer switch utility sensing board for a pre-determined amount of time (for GTS configured switches)
  • Low signal on Wire 183 at J2 Pin 4

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Repair or replace Wire N1A
  2. 2Replace transfer relay
  3. 3Replace the controller (if DMM indicates infinity during T1 wiring test)
  4. 4Repair or replace the wiring in the appropriate circuit (if DMM indicates continuity during T1 wiring test)
  5. 5Verify that Wire 15 is not pinched or cut or in any other way prevented from having proper battery voltage.
  6. 6Verify that Wire 15A is not pinched or cut or in any other way prevented from having proper battery voltage.
  7. 7The unit will start a 15-second timer.
  8. 8If utility voltage is still below 60 percent, the engine will begin the cranking cycle.
  9. 9The engine will begin to crank.
  10. 10The start relay closes the contact connecting fused (+) battery voltage to Wire 56.
  11. 11Fused (+) battery voltage is brought by the Wire 56 to the starter contactor.
  12. 12The starter contactor closes its contact connecting (+) battery voltage Wire 13 to Wire 16.
