What This Code Means

TPS 1 voltage of 4.8 volts or greater with the throttle closed; TPS 1 voltage exceeds 4.8 volts; Intermittent problem

Possible Causes

  • •Damage, corrosion or contamination in TPS 1 electrical connector terminals

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Perform On-Board (OBD) System Check
  2. 2Observe TPS 1 voltage on Diagnostic Scan Tool (DST) while depressing Foot Pedal
  3. 3Disconnect TPS 1 electrical connector and check TPS 1 voltage on DST
  4. 4Using a DVOM check for voltage between TPS 1 signal at the ECM connector pin 53 and engine ground
  5. 5Back probe sensor ground circuit at the ECM side of the wire harness pin 49 with a test light connected to battery voltage
  6. 6Inspect the TPS 1 electrical connector terminals for damage, corrosion or contamination
  7. 7Using a DVOM check for continuity between the TPS 1 connector sensor ground pin B and ECM connector TPS 1 sensor ground pin 49
  8. 8Repair the circuit as necessary (refer to Wiring Repairs in Engine Electrical)
  9. 9Replace TPS 1 sensor
