OVERCRANK
UnclassifiedSpeed
What This Code Means
Alarm horn sounds; Not in AUTO lamp lights; Generator set slows to 750rpm (25 Hz) and recranks before returning to rated speed; Engine shuts down on an overcrank fault
Possible Causes
- •Engine ECM limits the crank cycle
- •Engine cranks up to 45 seconds continuously or 75 seconds cyclically before shutting down.
- •Engine does not start after 45 seconds of continuous cranking
- •Engine does not start after 75 seconds of cyclic cranking
- •Engine fails to start within the maximum continuous (45 seconds) or cyclic (75 seconds) cranking limit
- •FASTCHECK engine switch is not moved from CRANK to RUN while the controller is causing the engine to crank
- •Generator set fails to start after three crank cycles (15 seconds crank and 15 seconds off)
- •Generator set fails to start after two crank cycles with 3 starting attempts during each cycle (applicable to 20 and 26 kW Models with RDC2.4 v 1.4.4 or later)
- •Generator set master switch is not in the AUTO position
- •Generator set master switch was momentarily placed in the OFF/RESET position and then returned to the RUN position
- •Speed sensor signal is absent for longer than one second
- •Starter or engine does not turn (locked rotor) after 15 seconds
Suggested Actions
- 1If circuit boards are equipped with DIP switches, select cranking using a DIP switch.
- 2Move FASTCHECK engine switch to RUN
- 3Move the generator set master switch to the AUTO position
- 4Refer to Section 2.3.1, Microprocessor Controller Features, for instructions on selecting cyclic or continuous cranking mode on the controller circuit board terminal strip.
- 5See the Faults section of the manual
- 6This is a normal operation for transient start/stop. No specific resolution mentioned beyond the description of the behavior.
