DTC 222

UnclassifiedEmissions

What This Code Means

MIL-On during active fault and for one update after active fault; System running rich / Rich exhaust condition; Closed Loop multiplier out of range (at limit of -35%); Sensed RPM higher than actual speed

Possible Causes

  • •High fuel pressure due to a faulty fuel regulator
  • •Higher manifold pressure than normal
  • •Injector failed open
  • •Obstructed fuel return line
  • •Open or poor ground circuit in ignition system or ECM causing EMI
  • •Shifted IAT sensor sensing lower than actual incoming air temperature
  • •Skewed ECT sensor sensing colder engine temperature than actual
  • •Voltage present between HO2S connector signal pin B and engine ground

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Check ECT sensor for a skewed reading
  2. 2Check IAT sensor for a shifted reading
  3. 3Check for voltage between HO2S connector signal pin B and engine ground using a high impedance DVOM
  4. 4Connect Diagnostic Scan Tool (DST) in System Data Mode, run engine to full operating temperature, and idle for a minimum of 2 minutes
  5. 5Diagnose any other ECM codes present before beginning procedure
  6. 6Disconnect HO2S wire harness connector and ECM wiring harness connector
  7. 7Perform On-Board (OBD) System Check
  8. 8Refer to Diagnostic Aids for DTC 222
  9. 9Refer to Intermittent section
  10. 10Repair the circuit as required (refer to Wiring Repairs in Engine Electrical)
  11. 11Temporarily disconnect the MAP sensor to allow the ECM to set a default MAP value
