FREE WATER MAY BE PRESENT <1000 PPM
UnclassifiedLubrication
What This Code Means
Inaccurate water concentration measurements; Unacceptably large error in FluidScan results; Water measurements never exceed 6,000 ppm; Oil sample is not truly homogeneous despite appearing opaque; FluidScan reports traditional E2412 dissolved water result and displays alert message
Possible Causes
- •Hand-shaking is insufficient to obtain a homogeneous sample with uniform water droplet size
- •Sample prepared only with vigorous hand-shaking (Method B)
- •Total water calibration <1,000 ppm is not available for a fluid and the total water detected is <1,000 ppm
- •Total water calibration <1,000 ppm is not available for the fluid and total water detected is <1,000 ppm
Suggested Actions
- 1Measure a fresh oil sample immediately at the sampling site to leverage machine turbulence and shearing
- 2Prepare samples prior to analysis using a commercially available homogenizer
