DTC 118

UnclassifiedElectrical

What This Code Means

ECT/CHT High Voltage; DST displays ECT voltage greater than limit set in calibration

Possible Causes

  • Intermittent Problem
  • Faulty ECM connection
  • Open ECT ground (5Vrtn1) circuit
  • Faulty connection to sensor
  • Faulty ECT sensor
  • Faulty ECM
  • Faulty Harness

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Perform the On-Board (OBD) System Check.
  2. 2With Key ON, Engine Off, and System Mode set to 'Stopped', check if the DST displays ECT voltage greater than the limit set in calibration.
  3. 3Disconnect the ECT sensor from the harness, jumper across terminals at the connector, and check if the DST displays an ECT voltage of 0.1 or less.
  4. 4With Key Off, disconnect the wire harness header from the ECM, carefully remove the yellow lock from the header at the device output terminal, and check the resistance between the MAP input at the ECM header and the signal at the device (do not insert probe or object directly into terminals to avoid spreading pins).
  5. 5Perform On-Board (OBD) System Check
  6. 6Disconnect ECT sensor from harness and jumper across terminals at connector to check if DST displays ECT voltage of 0.1 or less
  7. 7Disconnect wire harness header from ECM, carefully remove yellow lock from header at device output terminal, and check resistance between MAP input at ECM header and signal at device
