Possible Causes

  • Engine related problem
  • Fuel system related problem
  • Internal fault within the ECM
  • Short to Vbattery in harness
  • UEGO heater control signal is greater than 32V when the heater is switched on
  • UEGO heater element has short
  • UEGO heater supply voltage is greater than 32V

Suggested Actions

  1. 1Disconnect the harness from the ECM and check the heater control signal (between Pin 3 of the UEGO sensor and Pin 75 of the ECM) for a short to Vbattery using a DMM checking one pin at a time to the positive battery terminal
  2. 2Disconnect the harness from the UEGO Sensor and ECM and measure the heater resistance with a DMM (between pins 3 and 4 for Bosch sensor)
  3. 3Perform OBD system check
  4. 4Perform the On-Board (OBD) System Check
  5. 5Repair short to Vbattery in harness
  6. 6Replace ECM
  7. 7Replace UEGO sensor if heater resistance is less than 0.5 ohms
